Her Şey Bir Merhaba ile Başlar is a multimedia textbook with supplementary materials for intermediate Turkish language learners.

The textbook and public Canvas course comprise an openly licensed curriculum focused on developing Intercultural Communicative Competence. The four units invite learners to engage with culturally rich print, audio and video texts and use the target language to investigate, explain and reflect on the relationship between contemporary Turks’ socio-cultural practices, products and perspectives. Each unit addresses a different aspect of society: family, love and marriage, the environment, and art and politics, and contains the following components:

- contextualized grammar lessons,
- videos of Turks speaking about their lives and their country,
- activities that hone language skills while raising awareness about contemporary Turkish society,
- interactive, auto-correct exercises that facilitate learners’ acquisition of vocabulary and syntax structures.

The Her Şey Bir Merhaba ile Başlar textbook is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license. It is now downloadable for free in PDF or adaptable Google Docs format and is also available for purchase as a print-on-demand book from Lulu.com and Amazon.com. The Canvas course will be launching later in Spring 2021.

This Instructor’s Guide contains the brief outlines of Chapters 12-21 as found in Concepts of Biology, though some underwent revision. Also, instructors will find detailed outlines of the text for use in lecturing, as well as structured outlines that may be used by students to take notes while reading the chapter or during lecture. All outlines are derived from the OpenStax text. Additionally, study guides that contain a variety of questions are provided for students.

The Intelligent Troglodyte's Guide to Plato's Republic

The Republic of Plato is one of the classic gateway texts into the study and practice of philosophy, and it is just the sort of book that has been able to arrest and redirect lives. How it has been able to do this, and whether or not it will be able to do this in your own case, is something you can only discover for yourself. The present guidebook aims to help a person get fairly deep, fairly quickly, into the project. It divides the dialogue into 96 sections and provides commentary on each section as well as questions for reflection and exploration. It is organized with a table of contents and is stitched together with a system of navigating bookmarks. Links to external sites such as the Perseus Classical Library are used throughout. This book is suitable for college courses or independent study.

Library Carpentry Workshop Overview

Library Carpentry aims to teach people working in library- and information-related roles how to automate tasks; create, maintain, and analyze sustainable and reusable data; work effectively with IT and systems colleagues; and better understand the use of software in research. This is an overview of the "carpentries" curriculum for librarians.

[Note: although the Carpentry webpage uses an across-the-board copyright symbol on the footer of the page, the github repo on which the page is maintained, clearly states: "All Software, Data, and Library Carpentry instructional material is made available under the Creative Commons Attribution license." see: https://github.com/librarycarpentry/lc-overview]

The goal of these resources is to give a bird's eye view of the developments in open scientific research. That is, we cover both social developments (e.g. the culture in various communities) as well as technological ones. As such, no part of the contents are especially in-depth or geared towards advanced users of specific practices or tools. Nevertheless, certain sections are more relevant to some people than to others. Specifically:

The most interesting sections for graduate students will be about navigating the literature, managing evolving projects, and publishing and reviewing.
Lab technicians may derive the most benefit from the sections about capturing data, working with reproducibility in mind and sharing data.
For data scientists, the sections on organizing computational projects as workflows, managing versions of data and source code, open source software development, and data representation will be most relevant.
Principal investigators may be most interested in the sections on data management, data sharing, and coping with evolving projects.
Scientific publishers may be interested to know how scientists navigate the literature, what the expectations are for enhanced publications, and the needs for data publishing.
Science funders and policy makers may easily find value in the capturing data, data management, data sharing and navigating the literature.
Science communicators may be more interested in exploring the content by starting with navigating the literature, working with reproducibility in mind and sharing data.

This unit uses the slinky seismometer as a means of studying physics concepts such as waves, sound and the speed of sound vs speed of light, resonance, electricity and magnetism, Lenz Law and magnetic dampening (backwards engineering). Students experiment with the basic parts of the seismometer and either build or connect the seismometer to the internet to take and upload data.

In this project, students will use knowledge of electricity and electromagnetism to collaboratively design and test a model of a magnetic recycling sorter. They will evaluate the performance of their models and propose further modifications based on the output of their magnetic device measured in mT using a Vernier probe. They will also physically test their magnets on a model of a conveyor belt containing recyclable items. Students will track their data from both tests, with the ultimate goal of creating the strongest and most effective magnet with given materials. Finally, students will present their findings and proposed final design to peers and community partners involved in the recycling industry. The entire process takes about 6 weeks. The unit is a great fit for standards within energy and engineering & design.

Thermodynamica 2
Conditional Remix & Share Permitted
CC BY-NC-SA
