This course is an introduction to numerical methods and MATLAB®: Errors, condition numbers and roots of equations. Topics covered include Navier-Stokes; direct and iterative methods for linear systems; finite differences for elliptic, parabolic and hyperbolic equations; Fourier decomposition, error analysis and stability; high-order and compact finite-differences; finite volume methods; time marching methods; Navier-Stokes solvers; grid generation; finite volumes on complex geometries; finite element methods; spectral methods; boundary element and panel methods; turbulent flows; boundary layers; and Lagrangian coherent structures (LCSs).

Introduction to numerical methods: interpolation, differentiation, integration, systems of linear equations. Solution of differential equations by numerical integration, partial differential equations of inviscid hydrodynamics: finite difference methods, panel methods. Fast Fourier Transforms. Numerical representation of sea waves. Computation of the motions of ships in waves. Integral boundary layer equations and numerical solutions.

This graduate-level course is an advanced introduction to applications and theory of numerical methods for solution of differential equations. In particular, the course focuses on physically-arising partial differential equations, with emphasis on the fundamental ideas underlying various methods.

Dr. Lowey works with both juniors and seniors in the traditional Nursing program, teaching Community Health Nursing and Nursing Research. She earned her PhD in Health Practice Research from the University of Rochester and was awarded a Claire M. Fagin Fellowship from the Building Academic Geriatric Nursing Capacity Program for her post-doctoral work. Improving care at the end of life, with a particular focus on symptom management, is the focus of Dr. Lowey’s research. The majority of her clinical practice has been as a community health hospice nurse providing care for dying patients and their loved ones. Dr. Lowey holds national certification as a board certified hospice and palliative care nurse (CHPN) through the National Board for Certification of Hospice and Palliative Nurses. This Nursing Fundamentals textbook is an open educational resource developed for entry-level nursing students.

This book introduces the entry-level nursing student to the scope of nursing practice, various communication techniques, and caring for diverse patients. The nursing process is used as a framework for providing patient care based on the following nursing concepts: safety, oxygenation, comfort, spiritual well-being, grief and loss, sleep and rest, mobility, nutrition, fluid and electrolyte imbalance, and elimination. Care for patients with integumentary disorders and cognitive or sensory impairments is also discussed.

Learning activities have been incorporated into each chapter to encourage students to use critical thinking while applying content to patient care situations.

Content is based on the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) statewide nursing curriculum for the Nursing Fundamentals course (543-101), the 2019 NCLEX-RN Test Plan,[1] the 2020 NCLEX-PN Test Plan,[2] and the Wisconsin Nurse Practice Act.[3]

This is a peer-reviewed chapter in an open access book, Mineral Deficiencies. This chapter serves as an introduction to the emerging field of nutrigenomics (NG), a specialized branch of nutritional research which examines gene-diet interactions and its role in chronic disease. The chapter highlights the effects of specific food components on the genes which predispose individuals to chronic diseases such as: obesity, CVD, diabetes and cancer. The chapter does contain some grammatical and spelling errors, but the information contained is clear and relevant. It is a technical reading that is best suited to nurses, physicians, nutritionists, and other allied health professionals at both the undergraduate and graduate level.

NUTR& 101 is a nutrition course designed for science majors. It emphasizes the key nutritional concepts that students going into health care need to learn. It addresses the biochemical underlying causes of heart disease, stroke and diabetes due to lack of appropriate nutrition and exercise. It also details the digestive process, the digestion and absorption of macro and micronutrients including vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients. The course also examines the role of cultural factors, biochemical signals and psychological factors such as stress in eating habits. Various diets and overall metabolism are covered in relation to their effect on health. Nutrition for special populations is also discussed.

The nuts and bolts of preparing a New Venture Plan and launching the venture will be explored in this twenty-fifth annual course offering. The course is open to members of the MIT Community and to others interested in entrepreneurship. It is particularly recommended for persons who are interested in starting or are involved in a new business or venture. Because some of the speakers will be judges of the MIT $100K Entrepreneurship Competition, persons who are planning to enter the Competition should find the course particularly useful. In the past approximately 50% of the class has been from the Engineering / Science / Architecture Schools and 50% from the Sloan School of Management.

Our project involves students learning about the values of a natural area in their community and producing a public service announcement and map to show its value and how it could be developed.

Organic chemistry is the chemistry of carbon and carbon-containing compounds. Since the core structural, catalytic, information storage, and retrieval systems of organisms are carbon-based macromolecules, organic chemistry is of direct relevance to the life sciences. Just as importantly, the properties of carbon make possible an amazing range of molecules with unique properties, from small molecules to complex plastics and even more complex biomolecules.

OER Passport is a professional development program that takes educators through the process of understanding, finding, developing and sharing Open Educational Resources.
This course trains teachers and students on OER use, reuse, licensing, creation, and sharing by completing the following tasks. The first three tasks lay a solid foundation and provide teachers with the tools to complete the last three tasks which focus on the use, reuse, production, and innovative teaching practices.
Participants can complete the tasks online. There are also files to print/create physical copies of OER Passports that can be used in an offline environment.

Open Educational Resources (OER) offer opportunities for increasing equity and access to high-quality K–12 education. Many state education agencies now have offices devoted to identifying and using OERs and other digital resources in their states. To help states, districts, teachers, and other users determine the degree of alignment of OERs to the Common Core State Standards, and to determine aspects of quality of OERs, Achieve has developed eight rubrics in collaboration with leaders from the OER community.

The toolkit is made up of three elements:
1). information and resources to support your evaluation activities
2). an interactive tool to guide you through our Evaluation and Synthesis framework, providing an opportunity to submit findings, observations and links to evidence AND which feeds this back to you for inclusion in your project reporting mechanisms
3). examples of evaluation materials, instruments and reports from other UKOER projects
