Botanist: Seed Dispersal (Highly Recommend)

by Lynn Erickson 2 months, 4 weeks ago

Hello CT Defined Educators.  I am excited to share how well our Defined Learning Botanist: Seed Dispersal task went.  It aligned perfectly with the grade 2 plant and seeds unit our classes were studying.  The students were ENGAGED during the entire process.  We decided to have the students complete the 3D model part of the task.  Students chose their own partner to work with.  The also were able to choose which type of seed dispersal they wanted to showcase in their 3D model (wind, water, animals, gravity, etc). We provided them with a blueprint page for their to draw their designs first. We did add a video into their slideshow part of the task that brought together all the types of seed dispersal. We also provided students with various plants that are native to our area as examples of what they could use in their model.

We told students they could bring in various things to use for their 3D model.  We had our custodian save the paper box top lids so they could use that for their display.  On Friday, students came in with all kinds of creative ideas and materials.  We provided them with tissue paper, paper towel rolls, legos, washi tape, markers, crayons, cotton balls, and pom poms.  Attached are the pictures of their models.  We are putting them on display in the school for everyone to see.  They were so proud of their work.

The teachers also had some fun in the process too!  :)
