Live Virtual Field Trips and Defined Learning
by Lynn Erickson 6 months, 1 week agoAs you begin a task in Defined Learning, consider integrating a live virtual field trip into the launch or research piece of the task. Here are few resources to consider:
Exploring by the Seat of Your Pants- through virtual guest speakers and field trips, students can be immersed into learning about topics such as ocean plastics, biodiversity, women in STEM, space exploration, and conservation to name a few. Sign up for their monthly newsletters to learn of upcoming sessions. All field trips are archived on YouTube through their channel.
National Geographic Explorer Classroom- live interactive sessions that connect students to National Geographic Explorers focused on various topics. Events are scheduled weekly for students ages 4-14.
Center for Interactive Learning and Collaboration- an organization that has developed partnerships with organizations, zoos, museums, and performing arts centers throughout the nation focused on providing live, virtual experiences for students. Tune into weekly livestreams on topics such as STEM, history, art, storytelling, and more.
What are some of your favorite live virtual field trip resources?
What an awesome suggestion and FUN at the same time, Lynn!!!
I do enjoy using Exploring by the Seat of Your Pants but I have not used the other two resources you suggested. I can't wait to explore them further.
With the Defined Learning task, Aquarium Designer I really like using some of the "Live" video feeds and virtual trips to aquariums such as:
National Aquarium
Texas State Aquarium
Monterey Bay Aquarium
Thanks for sharing and the great idea, Lynn!
What a great idea! I love the Amazon Engineering Virtual Field trips (Virtual Field Trips to Explore Careers of the Future (amazonfutureengineer.com)). They give an awesome view into the level of automation being used to do something that everyone knows about.
I agree Cheryl. They are very interactive and engaging for students as well.
